Lo Fun Fact #1
"Lolita Files" is my real name. It is not a pen name, as incredible as that may seem. There are plenty of Files family members and people who have known me for years capable of validating this. As for the "Lolita" part, my mother named me after the movie based on Nabokov's book, although she saw or read neither. To this day, she has no idea what a "Lolita" is.
Lo Fun Fact #2
| I love fried chicken and fabulous shoes. If you ever want to get on my good side, send Popeye's or Mr. Chicken (my favorite spot in Cleveland) and a pair of
Christian Louboutins. |
Lo Fun Fact #3
Never show up unannounced or without a Pepsi (preferably Pepsi Jazz Caramel Cream). Better yet, how about not show up at all?
Lo Fun Fact #4
I hate the telephone. Don't get mad if I don't call you. I don't call anyone. Don't call me asking why I don't call. Just don't call, okay?
Lo Fun Fact #5
I love the internet!!! I love communicating through the internet!!! You can e-mail me and odds are I'll e-mail you right back (if I'm not in the middle of a major project). Makes up for my hangup about the phone, doesn't it? See, I'm not so bad after all!!!
Lo Fun Fact #6
I can't stand IMing. Please don't IM me. You will get the cold shoulder. I don't like giving people the cold shoulder, so please don't put me in that position.
Lo Fun Fact #7
I have four five six wonderful, slap-happy dogs, a bird (some kind of dove/pigeon mix), and a cat, all of whom I love to pieces. If you meet me and ask me about my dogs, bird, and cat, we'll be instant friends. If you meet me and ask me why the f*ck I have four five six dogs, a bird, and a cat, see the above fun fact for how I will respond. |

Friday Flashback.
Friday, November 17, 2006
This group's music will always be tops with me. They were ahead of their time and yet, somehow, they were right on the mark.
With Mic Murphy on vocals and David Frank creating their funky synth sound, The System was one of the hottest, hi-tech R&B bands/production teams of the eighties.
...circa 1982, had one of the greatest R&B synth songs of all time, "You Are In My System." This tune infected and affected me the moment I heard it. Here's the video. I'm sure the effect will still be the same. Enjoy!!!
Their biggest hit of all came in 1987, on the album Don't Disturb This Groove...
...with the title cut, "Don't Disturb This Groove." This song still stands as one of the hottest love grooves ever. Makes you wanna bail from whatever you're doing and hole up with someone worth disappearing with. Here's the video. Happy Friday, y'all!!!

"Don't Disturb This Groove" - 1987, Tracey Butler -- I was on my way to Basic Training for the Army. I had seen her around campus (UF), but we never really spoke. We both were in the airport in Jax, FL waiting on a flight and had some time to burn, so we talked it up. We ended up becoming pretty good friends. She even wrote to me once or twice while I was in basic training. It was in one of those letters that she commented about really digging that song and how she just loved turning it up loud, rolling the windows down and enjoying the ride. Once I got back to school, we managed to keep in touch although she had stopped attending school there. Not long after, she got married and her new hubby put her on lock, but whenever I hear that song, I think of her.
It's funny, but I can mark time, people, and places with music (good music, that is).

Bro, 1987 was almost 20 years ago, and my wife isn't insecure. She knows she's my Queen. Besides, I wasn't digging on Tracey like that. We were just cool. She was already in a relationship with her hubby when we met. I guess everyone always implies that something must be going on if you speak fondly of the opposite sex, but that's not always the case.
The music just makes me remember times gone by.
