Lo Fun Fact #1
"Lolita Files" is my real name. It is not a pen name, as incredible as that may seem. There are plenty of Files family members and people who have known me for years capable of validating this. As for the "Lolita" part, my mother named me after the movie based on Nabokov's book, although she saw or read neither. For as long as she lived, she had no idea there was anything sexual or seedy about being called "Lolita".
Lo Fun Fact #2
| I love fried chicken and fabulous shoes (although obviously I can't eat fried chicken nearly as much as I'd like). If you ever want to get on my good side, send Popeye's or Church's (that's right, I said Church's) and a pair of
Christian Louboutins. |
Lo Fun Fact #3
Never show up unannounced or without a Pepsi. Better yet, how about not showing up at all?
Lo Fun Fact #4
I hate the telephone. Don't get mad if I don't call you or take a long time to return your calls. I don't call anyone. Don't call me asking why I don't call. Just don't call, okay? (Exception: I will happily take all calls related to business or to share fun/exciting/major news. I'm just not one for jawing on the phone just to be jawing.)
Lo Fun Fact #5
I love the internet!!! I love communicating through the internet!!! You can e-mail me and odds are I'll e-mail you right back (if I'm not in the middle of a major project). Makes up for my hangup about the phone, doesn't it? See, I'm not so bad after all!!!
Lo Fun Fact #6
I can't stand IMing. Please don't IM me. I'm always on my laptop and connected to the internet as I work and when IM's pop into my screen out of nowhere, they break my concentration and often startle the sh*t out of me in the process. So don't do it. You will get the cold shoulder. I don't like giving people the cold shoulder, so please don't put me in that position.
Lo Fun Fact #7
I have four five six wonderful, slap-happy dogs and a cat, all of whom I love to pieces. I had a bird (a Roller pigeon that I rescued in LA on New Year's Day in 2004) named B-Bird (what? that's a good name!) who passed away in February 2009, which broke my widdle heart in half. He loved me so, as I did him. If you meet me and ask me about my dogs and cat, we'll be instant friends, and if you ask about B-Bird, I'll probably hug you (unless you smell...wash first). If you meet me and ask me why the f*ck I have four five six dogs and a cat, see the above fun fact for how I will respond. |

Really Good Or Really Shitty, Excerpt #3: The Results!!!
Wednesday, April 04, 2007
Your responses are in for the third edition of our fun little subjective game of lit vs. shit, Really Good or Really Shitty!!!
...presented the following excerpt:
Even in a three ring circus, I’m sure you haven’t seen a man handle three women with such great mastery. These three women, combined with the few I had long distance made me the ultimate juggler. If this were a circus, the ringmaster would be working extra hard to keep up with the details of this performance. Be that as it may, that’s exactly the way I was living. At the time all of this was going down, the required skills were second nature to me. However, I must admit they took some time to develop, because being a player takes talent. You have to know how to appeal to different women at the same time, learn how to handle various female nuances, make sure you keep the stories from crossing, and above all else, you can never, and I do mean never, fall in love, ‘cause that sort of thing can bring your act to a screeching halt. After 312 votes, here's what you said:
[click image to enlarge] Looks like Really Good and Really Shitty were duking it out, but Meh, it was okay was clearly the winner. And made a decent showing as well. 13 people thought it was Excellent.
27 folks' eyes bled. Here's some Visine for that.
All jokes aside, I'm incredibly proud of this man for daring to be the first brave soul to allow us to critique his writing. This particular piece was written by R. Sander Fitzgerald...
Rich is working on his own material, some of which will be published under the name R. Sander Fitzgerald, and he was open to allowing us to give him the skinny on what we thought of his work.
I'm just gushing with pride for him, and looking forward to more brave souls who are willing to share. Some have already submitted and will be posted soon.
Thanks for playing!!!

Rich...my main man! A three ring circus, huh? Your character has mad skills, son!
Tell him to call me! LOL!!!
I likeded it!

Thanks DC
Very interesting results. I was laughing at the race between really good and really shitty myself.
Tough audience here, but considering Chuck Palahniuk couldn't get an overwhelming really good, I guess I'm in good company.
I can't wait to see what's up next.
As a side note, that excerpt you read is all there is to that story. I jotted that down so I wouldn't forget where I wanted to go with the story. The fiction that currently has my attention is of a different subject matter and hopefully I can share the finished work with this audience in the near future.
I love this format, it really cuts through the bullshit that people feel compelled to dish out to you.
Next time, if we're still playing this game, I'll give you enough to really chew into.

Great job Rich! You are an inspiration for us all...to be brave too! Thanks for sharing.
-
Good for you, Rich. Very brave of you to let us see your writing and share our opinion.
-
Go Rich!!! I loved the way it flowed, but as I stated - the subject brings me much angst;P...

Thanks CapCity, but for real, while I appreciate your vote of confidence, I didn't submit to get pats on the back. I just wanted to throw my hat in the ring.
The thing that I'm learning is that you just have to put yourself out there. Sometimes fear keeps so many of us from moving forward. If we can overcome the fear of being judged, we just might accomplish some goals.
While the view from the stands looks great. It's more fulfilling to be in the game.
The victories will come, especially if you practice hard and follow instruction, but the greatest step is having the courage to get in the game and play.

I agree w/ u, Rich that we need to step out of our comfort zones. I don't send out empty praise (former teacher in me won't allow it;-). That's another reason that this former teacher has stepped out on the faith that I encouraged my students to step out on!
I also have learned that there's a reason EVERY team has cheerleaders - even the losing team;-). Sometimes we forget to cheer ourselves and need help from others to do so.
When my time comes to stand "naked" on display - I also don't want any coddling & false cheers, but I don't think I have to worry about that here;-).

that was so profound....don't be mad when you see it again. I was a cheerleader in a former life!

It's all good. I appreciate the kind words from everyone. I was just letting y'all in on how I think and hoping to spur someone else to come out of the shadows.
