The Lo Zone

A groovy place in cyberspace run by author Lolita Files. Come on in. Bring some Pepsi.

Lo Fun Fact #1
"Lolita Files" is my real name. It is not a pen name, as incredible as that may seem. There are plenty of Files family members and people who have known me for years capable of validating this. As for the "Lolita" part, my mother named me after the movie based on Nabokov's book, although she saw or read neither. To this day, she has no idea what a "Lolita" is.
Lo Fun Fact #2
I love fried chicken and fabulous shoes. If you ever want to get on my good side, send Popeye's or Mr. Chicken (my favorite spot in Cleveland) and a pair of Christian Louboutins.
Lo Fun Fact #3
Never show up unannounced or without a Pepsi (preferably Pepsi Jazz Caramel Cream). Better yet, how about not show up at all?
Lo Fun Fact #4
I hate the telephone. Don't get mad if I don't call you. I don't call anyone. Don't call me asking why I don't call. Just don't call, okay?
Lo Fun Fact #5
I love the internet!!! I love communicating through the internet!!! You can e-mail me and odds are I'll e-mail you right back (if I'm not in the middle of a major project). Makes up for my hangup about the phone, doesn't it? See, I'm not so bad after all!!!
Lo Fun Fact #6
I can't stand IMing. Please don't IM me. You will get the cold shoulder. I don't like giving people the cold shoulder, so please don't put me in that position.
Lo Fun Fact #7
I have four five wonderful, slap-happy dogs and a bird (some kind of dove/pigeon mix), all of whom I love to pieces. If you meet me and ask me about my dogs and bird, we'll be instant friends. If you meet me and ask me why the f*ck I have four five dogs and a bird, see the above fun fact for how I will respond.

Michelle Williams of the R&B group Destiny's Child is joining the Chicago production of "The Color Purple," the producers announced Tuesday.

I thoroughly enjoyed the theatrical release of Alice Walker's book, so I'm sure the play will be quite a treat. It had been rumored that the show would make it's way to Chicago, since Oprah is one of the show's producers, so I'm glad to see the rumor came true.

Don't you wish you worked for Chrysler

Chrysler Group will offer some of its 49,600 hourly U.S. workers at select plants up to $100,000 to leave the company as part of a recovery plan announced earlier this month. The company, which lost $1.475 billion in 2006 and said it expects losses to continue through 2007, said on Feb. 14 that it intends to shed 13,000 jobs, including 11,000 hourly positions and 2,000 salaried, as it tries to further shrink itself to match reduced demand for its products.

I guess they went overboard with those 300's in the past couple of years. I guess they should have been focusing on making better cars than trendy cars.

Keeping with Chrysler's theme, what would it take for you to voluntarily leave your current employer?

Changing the game
Talent is all around us.

The internet is changing the way the game is being played. People are creating an audience for themselves simply by creating a presence and then spreading the word. I've definitely noticed this with regard to blogging. I'm beginning to meet a lot of cool people this way as well as potential business contacts.

Yesterday, while I was doing my daily blogging tour, I ran across a sister out of Detroit who I've seen commenting at other blogs that I frequent. I think I initially saw her at Lo Zoner Dawnya's blog, but yesterday I took the link to her blog after reading one of her comments on another blog. It seems that this young lady has been taking a chance on her poetry and her efforts have resulted in her being featured in Essence magazine. Considering Essence has well over a million subscribers (we won't even talk about those who just pick it up at the stands) I'd have to say this blogging experience is working out for her. The young lady I'm referring to goes by the tag, Shai.

Shai Lynn Davis resides in Detroit and is currently working on two books of poetry. Shai has recently been featured in the March 2007 edition of Essence magazine. Her poem, Detrimental, is in the Word section on page 189. You can check out her poetry and other writings on her blog:

DRAWN 2 WORDS

In case you miss her in Essence, here is her featured peice.

DETRIMENTAL

He wanted me
To be a flowing river
Eternally supplying his needs
Him, closed off
Always receiving
Me, feeding him a feast
Him, giving me
Dried up crumbled promises
Only for him to walk away
Me, dangling
Like charms on a bracelet
Along with all the others

-Shai Lynn Kai Davis

Good luck to you Shai in all your future endeavors

Introducing....
Tuesday, February 27, 2007
I thought this book wouldn't be available until March 1st, but I saw copies of it in Waldenbooks over the weekend. What book is that you ask? It's the new anthology featuring our beloved hostess, Lolita Files and two of her writing peers,
Connie Briscoe and Anita Bunkley.

I haven't read it yet (just flipped some pages in the bookstore). Somebody, I'm not saying who, promised me a copy and I guess it's coming via the scenic route.

I'm just anxious, not ungrateful.

Nevertheless, I know it's going to be a good read, my literature benefactor never puts out anything that isn't top notch.

Amazon, has an excerpt of this recent offering that you can check out. I guess I won't jack them for it, this time.

You can CHECK IT OUT HERE.

The excerpt is from Connie Briscoe and I rather enjoyed it. I hope you do as well.

Strange Fruit
It seems the Rev. Al Sharpton received a bit of bizarre news recently. A search of his geneology has shown that he was a descendant of a slave that was owned by the relatives of the late Senator Strom Thurmond.

Strom Thurmond, who died in 2003 at the age 100, was once the poster boy for segregation in the United States.

Thurmond, of South Carolina, was once considered an icon of racial segregation. During his 1948 bid for president, he promised to preserve segregation and, in 1957, he filibustered for more than 24 hours against a civil rights bill.

Al Sharpton, who I'm sure most of you are familiar with was totally shocked by the revelation.

"It was probably the most shocking thing in my life," Sharpton said at a news conference Sunday.

Sharpton, who ran for president in 2004 on a ticket of racial justice, said he met Thurmond only once in 1991 when he visited Washington, D.C., with the late soul singer James Brown, who knew Thurmond. Sharpton said the meeting was "awkward."

Give it up for life
Would you give up sex if it meant you would live a longer life?

107 yr old Chan Chi, one of Hong Kong's oldest people, attributes his abstinence as part of the reason why he has lived as long as he has.

"I don't know why I have lived this long, maybe it has to do with the fact that I have lived a sex-less life for many years -- since I was 30," said Chan, a widower whose youthful bride perished during the Japanese invasion in World War Two.

Chan does have an addiction he can't seem to give up though.

The centenarian, who's had no difficulty living a monastic existence for nearly 80 years, admits the pleasures of tobacco have been harder to resist.

"Now I want to quit," he was quoted as saying of his decades-long cigarette addiction. "Maybe the government should ban cigarette sales so I can give it up," he added.

Since he can't give up the tobacco, I wonder if the sex thing is all in his head (no pun intented).

A better question is what would it take for you to give up sex for the rest of your life?

Friday Flashback
Friday, February 23, 2007

I haven't heard a selection from this group in years but as I was listening to my Pandora player the other day, and one of their selections came across. When I heard them I had to smile, because I had long forgotten about them. As big of a music fan as I am, I have let go of my music collection activities in favor of buying my wife and kids more of what they want. However, since we have the internet these days it's not as big of a sacrifice as it has to be, because I can still get exposed to good music. I can hear Lo now telling me that I should also buy myself some of what I want, but that's another post topic altogether.

Back to the point at hand. The group D'Influence hails out of London and they are billed as an Acid Jazz band, but they do some great soul alternative music as well. Listening to them brings to mind Incognito, Brand New Heavies, Omar (who I personally haven't listened to since 1994), and Carleen Anderson just to give you an idea. The songs I wanted to share were "Funny How Things Change" and "Good For We", but I couldn't find them online and I have their album entitled "Good For We" on cassette. Remember those! They have gone the way of the 8 Track; so sad. I still have music in my basement, good music I might add, that's on cassette. I may have to go pull some of it and get my reminisce on.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you. D'Influence

Let the fighting begin
Thursday, February 22, 2007
In-fighting is the best way to destroy a team. Why can't the Democrats NOT destroy each other in the process of seeking the Presidential Nomination

The rival presidential campaigns of Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama traded accusations of nasty politics Wednesday over Hollywood donor David Geffen, who once backed Bill Clinton but now supports his wife's top rival.

The Clinton campaign demanded that Obama denounce comments made by the DreamWorks movie studio founder, who told New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd in Wednesday's edition that Sen. Clinton was ambitious and polarizing and her husband "reckless."

The Clinton camp also called on Obama to give back Geffen's $2,300 contribution.

Note to Hillary (in my best ebonics): Brothers don't give back no free money.

Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs added another criticism of Clinton.

"It is also ironic that Senator Clinton lavished praise on Monday and is fully willing to accept today the support of South Carolina state Sen. Robert Ford, who said if Barack Obama were to win the nomination, he would drag down the rest of the Democratic Party because 'he's black,'" Gibbs' statement said.

Wait a minute, I thought black folks were the reason the Democratic Party even had a leg to stand on. We swing the vote in their favor ALL the freaking time.

Messin' Up A Good Thing
Wednesday, February 21, 2007
Why do women have to always fall in love and mess up a good thing?

Sound like fighting words, right? Well, this is the logic I was working with when I was a single lad. No matter what I told my prospective “friend” upfront, sooner or later they would want to change the rules of the game. Like a true player, I wasn’t having it. Revealing their feelings just meant that it was “time up” for them.

Before y'all start trippin' on Ole Rich, keep in mind, I was doing this when I was in my early twenties (I’m almost 40 now), so imagine my surprise when I was talking to a friend of mine long distance and she started laying this conversation down about how she was now digging on this dude that she started out with as just a “friend”, and she was wondering why he wouldn’t commit. I just shook my head, although she couldn’t see it through the phone, and replied “You may as well hang it up or dig in for the long haul. Dude sounds like me from back in the day, he’s not going to change game mid-stream.”

I eventually had to switch to a different conversation, because I could tell she was stuck on doing what she wanted. She was being a glutton for punishment, just because the loving was good. What a shame. So it got me to thinking, if she’s over 40, attractive and intelligent and g’ing for this type of behavior, how many sisters are out here doing the same thing? Inquiring minds want to know.

Cheating can kill you
Tuesday, February 20, 2007

While searching out a post topic I ran across an interesting article. Here's the headline:

The death did not occur from the hands of an angry wife as one would suspect. It came as a result of having your cake and eating it too.

The majority of the men who died during sexual intercourse, died when having sex with mistresses, not with their wives.

The study was done in Germany on 30,000 men who died since 1970. Out of those 30K only 60 men came and went at the same time and over 25% of those men were with a lover or a prostitute. So what caused the death you ask. It wasn't bad loving. In fact is was just the opposite. It seems that when men are with their other woman, they go out of their way to perform at their best. That's right, they died trying to "represent".
So much for "who's your daddy".

When these men went out of their way to "put it down" it seems their orgasm was exhausted, with the likely cause of death being attributed to increased blood pressure.

What's your take?
Friday, February 16, 2007

I decided against music this week because I wasn't sure if you all were really feeling the selections. I may pick it back up, depending on how I feel. But we'll see. Right now I listen to either Gospel or Hip-Hop (what a combination, right) and I don't have any old school Gospel that I'm interested in sharing; I've done enough hip hop for now. So, I decided I'd share an opinion and let you give your take.

Today's opinion:

Whatever happened to being able to say what you feel regardless of if someone gets offended? I hate it when the press, public officials, or anyone for that matter pressures someone into back peddling a previous statement that they made. I’m more than happy to allow someone to play their cards and reveal their true self. It makes it better for all parties when you have a clear picture of who a person is. I say, we should move to repeal the entire notion of “politically correct” and allow people to remove the masks.

Do you agree/disagree?

Case in point #1: Tim Hardaway (retired NBA player) comments “I Hate Gay’s”

In my opinion he makes a big enough fool out of himself, so why make him take it back, regardless of his affiliation with the NBA. Let him wear his comments. He's only sorry because no one else would stand with him on the comments. He still means it.

Case in point #2: Beauty and The Geek Contestant puts foot in mouth.

I watched the season finale of “Beauty and the Geek” and in the end the winner of the $250,000 prize was going to be awarded based on how much the process changed the final Beauty/Geek pairings. This threw a monkey wrench in the program because one of the contestants schemed, connived, and just basically threw salt in the game to get to the end. However, it was her own partner who convinced the panel of judges not to vote for them, because she basically balked about hating everyone and not wanting to kiss their “donkeys”. Had she been more politically correct during the show they probably would have won, because the guy she paired with, everyone loved. So my point is, in the end, she showed just how much of a butt-hole she was and she didn’t get rewarded for it, she paid for it, to the tune of a quarter of a million dollars.

How do you feel about the subject in general? Do you think we should encourage censorship or just allow people to speak their piece and “watch the ice break”?

Friday Flashback

On second thought, I decided to share this one video. It's a popular Gospel group called Commission.

Commission hails out of Detroit and the group started around 1984 with six members, some of which you may have heard of:

Keith Staten, Fred Hammond, Mitchell Jones, Karl Reid, Michael Brooks, and Michael Williams

The group went through changes as most groups do, so in 1991 Staten and Brooks left the group and were replaced by Marvin Sapp, Maxx Frank, and Eddie Howard, Jr. By 1994 Howard had left the group and Williams left a year later. Hammond also left to pursue a career with the group Radical For Christ. He was replaced by Montrell Darrett. By 2000, Marcus Cole and Chris Poole had taken the place of Sapp and Darrett on the group's last studio album. In 2002 Commissioned released a reunion album which brought back most of the group's former members and featured most of its greatest hits.

The interesting thing about my love of Gospel music is that I really didn't listen to much popular Gospel growing up. Considering my background, some find that interesting especially since I grew up the grandson of a Baptist Minister. Five of my uncles are also ministers today, but I still gravitated toward R&B, Hip-Hop and Soft Rock when I was growing up. My grandfather was Old School Gospel and he didn't like any of the popular gospel of that time; Commissioned, The Winans, Might Clouds of Joy, or anyone who remotely sounded like R&B (he called it The Blues). He never articulated the spiritual implifications of the effect of lyrical content, he just said, "We don't listen to no blues." So, being the strong willed person that I always was, I listened anway, because just saying no wasn't good enough. Yeah, I'm the rebellious kind.

I guess it's also interesting that the Gospel that I do like, has R&B and Hip-Hop influences. Go Figure.

Well, here's a selection from Commissioned entitled Ordinary Just Won't Do. I hope it ministers to your soul. If you really like it, you might also want to check out the song "Go Tell Somebody", the first Commissioned song that I ever heard. I couldn't find it on You Tube, but I'm sure it's on their reunion album. The group has some awesome talent. I'm a big fan of former member Fred Hammond. He has had a very good solo career. Marvin Sapp is also very good. So, if you are looking to add a little something that's missing to your collection, you might want to start with Commissioned. Have a good weekend.

Book Tours Get Down and Dirty
Thursday, February 15, 2007

Oftentimes writers create characters to air their dirty laundry and clean out their perverbial closets. This is nothing new, of course, but have you ever attended a book reading at a laundromat?

New York writer Emily Rubin has organized a series of readings called "Dirty Laundry: Loads of Prose," at laundromats in New York.

"Just mixing laundry and writing seemed completely natural to me because truly in life and metaphorically as a writer, everyone has dirty laundry," said the Brooklyn native who started the series last year.

I haven't been to a laudromat in years, but I wouldn't be opposed to throwing in a few loads while listening to the latest reading of a good author. I think that at the least, this puts a spin on traditional literary marketing.

Stripped Down

Sometimes getting what you always wanted means losing something that you already have.

Since I was 12 years old I have dreamed of being in Playboy," says California-born Michelle Manhart, an Air Force drill sergeant.

However, it seems the US Air Force didn't take too kindly of her posing for Playboy, so they ended her twelve year career by removing her from extended active duty and demoting her from staff seargent to senior airman.

What a raw deal!

Does her posing really make that big of a deal? She only exposed enough to give some good eye candy views (sorry no links; contrary to popular opinion, this site is PG13).

While I understand that the military is a strict environment (I did my time as a Reservist), the fact that women are among the ranks hasn't been that big of a distraction and there is a LOT of "relations" going on in those camps. I think at best, she would have caused an initial fuss, but then it would have quieted down.

Happy Valentines Day
Wednesday, February 14, 2007
On this day set aside for love, I hope everyone gets their fair share.

For some reason, I've never been a big fan of Valentines Day. Maybe it was because I was usually single when it rolled around. It wasn't planned (I didn't dump to avoid holidays).

Anyway, I searched the blog archives to see how Lo celebrated last year. So keeping with tradition, here's a little piece of chocolate for you ladies.

My son Miles, who just turned 5 in December, already loves the ladies, so he'll enjoy the attention. I know ya'll didn't think I was going to find some man to put on here. However, if you just must have some chocolate, here's something you can sink your teeth into.

Show Some Love
Tuesday, February 13, 2007

Every time I type the words "show some love" for some reason I think of Steve Harvey. However, those words are the exact sentiment that I wish to express when I suggest that on Valentines Day everyone go out and support
Tyler Perry's new film
Daddy's Little Girls

Besides having the lovely Gabrielle Union and the strickingly handsome Idris Elba, the film looks to be a winner. Supporting this movie during it's mid week premier positions it to not only set a record for opening week sales, but it also gives you the opportunity to make a statement to Hollywood that you enjoy seeing positive African American films.

If you haven't seen the trailer already, enjoy the preview.

LoZone Celebs now on DVD
As I was enjoying one of my favorite jaunts to Blockbuster, I couldn't help but notice that Eric Jerome Dickey's novel "Friends and Lovers" was available on DVD on the New Release wall; the stageplay version.

If you are like me and haven't read the book (sorry Eric) or seen the stageplay, here's your chance.

I'm just glad to see the variety of media that offers the work of African-American writers and entertainers increasing. You will also be able to see another Lo Zone favorite, Mel Jackson staring in the release, along with Miguel Nunez, Leon, Monica Calhoun and Maia Campbell.

I tried to get a copy several times this weekend and still haven't had any luck, so it must be pretty darn good. With the original story done by Eric and this cast of actors performing in the play, I wouldn't expect anything less.

It's The Shoes Money
Monday, February 12, 2007
There is nothing more frightening to a parent than not knowing where their child is.

Being a father of five I have on more than one occasion called out to one of my children because their desire to explore caused them to leave my sight.

My kids don't live in fear for their life the way I did growing up. In fact, my mother's remedy for hard head kids at the mall was to leave you in the car while she shopped.

Yeah, I know. You can't do that these days. For one, the cops will be called to the scene and two there are a lot of crazy people in the world today.

If you have overly adventurous children or are just overly protective (you have every right to be) then this is for you.

Isaac Daniel calls the tiny Global Positioning System chip he's embedded into a line of sneakers "peace of mind." He wishes his 8-year-old son had been wearing them when he got a call from his school in 2002 saying the boy was missing. The worried father hopped a flight to Atlanta from New York where he had been on business to find the incident had been a miscommunication and his son was safe.

Days later, the engineer started working on a prototype of Quantum Satellite Technology, a line of $325 to $350 adult sneakers that hit shelves next month. It promises to locate the wearer anywhere in the world with the press of a button. A children's line will be out this summer.
The sneakers work when the wearer presses a button on the shoe to activate the GPS. A wireless alert detailing the location is sent to a 24-hour monitoring service that costs an additional $19.95 a month. In some emergencies — such as lost child or Alzheimer's patient — a parent, spouse or guardian can call the monitoring service, and operators can activate the GPS remotely and alert authorities if the caller can provide the correct password. But the shoe is not meant for non-emergencies — like to find out if a teen is really at the library or a spouse is really on a business trip. If authorities are called and it is not an emergency, the wearer will incur all law enforcement costs, Daniel said.

With technology like this, you can now increase the likelihood of having your loved ones returned safely, if something unthinkable happens.

Bad Cocktail

It seems the death of beloved R&B singer Gerald Levert was due to an acute intoxication brought on by a fatal combination of prescription narcotics and over-the-counter drugs.

The drugs in his bloodstream included the narcotic pain relievers Vicodin, Percocet and Darvocet, along with anxiety medication Xanax and two over-the-counter antihistamines, Geauga County Coroner Kevin Chartrand said. The official cause of death was acute intoxication, and the death was ruled accidental.

Andy Gibson, a family spokesman, said Levert was taking the pain medication because of chronic pain from a lingering shoulder problem and surgery in 2005 to repair a severed Achilles tendon. The autopsy revealed that Levert had pneumonia.

Levert also took Xanax for anxiety attacks, Gibson said.

Friday Flashback
Friday, February 09, 2007
Some of my greatest years were spent in the early 90's in Atlanta, GA. During that time, R&B and Hip Hop music was burgeoning in so many wonderful directions. It seems that musicians were coming into their own and the time felt like a modern musical renaissance.

Many of those musicians have retreated back into the folds of society and some just work behind the scenes producing today's stars.

Nevertheless, there was a lot of good music during those times and I'd like to pay tribute to some of the forgotten musicians of the late 80's and early 90's

Killer Ipod
Thursday, February 08, 2007
Looks like the Ipod is making headlines again. This time for being the cause of fatal accidents.

New York State Sen. Carl Kruger says three pedestrians in his Brooklyn district have been killed since September upon stepping into traffic while distracted by an electronic device. In one case bystanders screamed "watch out" to no avail.

Officials are trying to set up a fining system to discourage the public from crossing the street while using Ipods and other electronic devices such as Blackberries and cell phones. If this is passed, New Yorkers may soon be looking at $100 fine.

Dangerous Territory

With home foreclosures surging, senators on Wednesday examined lending practices that especially hurt minorities and seniors and can heighten the risk of default.

Sen. Christopher Dodd, chairman of the Banking Committee, said the mortgage industry has to take greater responsibility and federal regulators may have to intervene.

"We are seeing increasing evidence that this important source of wealth for so many American families is under a grave threat from predatory, abusive and irresponsible lending practices undertaken by too many subprime lenders," Dodd, D-Conn., said at a hearing.

Translation: Too many middle class suburbanites are losing their homes and doggone it, we're going to do something about it!

Make no mistake about it, minorities, especially people of color have been getting dogged by lenders for years. The complaints have been going forward for years, but now you have mortgage brokers on every corner like you have churches and liquor stores in the hood.

The problem isn't poor people. Well, it is a problem for poor people, but the issue in this case is all the houses at $250k and up that are being foreclosed on.

Not even a week ago I was in a conversation with a buddy of mine whose a Real Estate Investor and he commented that some of the more upscale communities are a literal hot bed for foreclosures. It seems many people got into homes they couldn't afford using adjustable rate mortgage products and now the mortgages are adjusting upwards and they can't afford the payments. Some are so cash strapped that they can't even afford the payments on a fixed mortgage, so many of them are losing their homes.

So, if you live in a nice neighborhood and notice your neighbors moving out in the middle of the night, chances are they are trying to save face, because they couldn't keep up with the Joneses.

Born That Way
Before I get into this, let me make one thing clear, I'm not anti or pro gay. In fact a very good and longtime friend of mine came out while we were in college. But that's neither here nor there (doesn't matter), the point I was attempting to make is that maybe there is some validity to this "born gay" theory.

I've heard comments like you don't see other animals outside of humans acting gay. Well, that's not quite true.

Zoologists have known for many years that homosexuality isn't uncommon among animals.

In fact, male sheep exhibit homosexuality at least as often as humans: roughly 8% of rams turn out to have sex exclusively with other rams.

Talk about a butt in the head. I guess all that slapping up against each other got them turned on.

This little piece of faunal ephemera might otherwise have gone unnoticed outside the rarely intersecting subcultures of gays and shepherds. But a few months ago, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals launched a p.r. campaign on behalf of gay sheep. PETA claims that researchers in Oregon are killing gay sheep and cutting open their brains in order to learn how to turn gay rams straight.

The lengths we go to in order to make everyone and everything fit inside a box is unreal. If those sheep want to bump each other, let them go right ahead, besides they were born that way.

Your Bear Might Be Dog
The US has hit a cold snap as of late and everyone is grabbing their big coat, the coat I like to call The Bear. The bear does exceptionally well when you have to endure the hawk for long periods of time.

In this fashion conscious country you find that a lot of people chose coats with faux fur around the collar. Well, I hate to be the one to tell you, but that fur might be dog, racoon dog that is.

Many fur or fur-trimmed jackets sold in the United States as having "faux fur" -- or not labeled at all -- are actually made, at least in part, from dog fur, the Humane Society of the United States said at a Capitol Hill news conference Wednesday.

Out of 25 jackets that it tested, the group said, 24 were incorrectly labeled. In many cases, it said, tests showed the fur came from raccoon dogs, nocturnal residents of Asian and northern European forests that bear a remarkable resemblance to raccoons.

I guess the saying "you get what you pay for" comes to mind in this case.

What'd They Expect from Prince!
Wednesday, February 07, 2007

When you hire Prince for your half time show, you should expect that innuendo will be part of the act. I mean, his whole career is built on it.

So, why are they now questioning what this image was about?

In the sensitive post-wardrobe malfunction world, some are questioning whether a guitar was just a guitar during Prince's Super Bowl halftime show.

Prince's acclaimed performance included a guitar solo during the "Purple Rain" segment of his medley in which his shadow was projected onto a large, flowing beige sheet. As the 48-year-old rock star let rip, the silhouette cast by his figure and his guitar (shaped like the singer's symbol) had phallic connotations for some.

They know what it was about. Prince was being his normal freaky self. Maybe he should have broke out with the song Head** to make it more obvious.

**Yeah, it's Mr. Freaky doing his thang!

Halleluyah!! I've been changed

It looks like Ted Haggard has undergone quite a change after a THREE week intensive counseling session. While it's been nearly three months since he made headlines for having a male partner, Haggard has since managed to steer clear of any duplicitious behavior.

So, in honor of Brother Haggard, I offer the following selection from the choir.

I know it's hard to walk the straight and narrow sometimes, but let's hope that his change is sincere and that he just isn't looking to find his way back into the pulpit for the wrong reasons. The church leaders suggested he relocate (damage control, in my opinion), so I'm sure he'll be preaching again soon.

I hate to sound like a non-believer, but this just seems all too familiar.

Move over YouTube
YouTube is having it's share of problems these days with accusations of copyright infringement.

In my opinion, this is just another example of "if you aren't paying me, you can't use my stuff". While I can't say that I blame Viacom; they sure are trying to mess up all the fun.

However, in this day and age, it doesn't take long for another company to come along and pick up where one company leaves off.

In this case, the company I'm referring to is Jumpcut.

Jumpcut recently teamed up with Yahoo to allow Yahoo users the opportunity to create their own commercial for the Superbowl. The commercials were a great marketing promotion for Jumpcut and it also helped to create more opportunities for the Average Joe. While Jumpcut isn't as big as YouTube yet, it's a great place to create, add, and share your own videos. So, do yourself a favor and check them out.

They also have entertaining little videos, like the one I'm sharing here. Maybe I'll see one of you out there one day.

Where's a celebrity when you need one
Tuesday, February 06, 2007
Blogging is a time consuming job. Anyone who does it on the daily can attest to what I'm talking about. That being the case, it's always good to have some filler ever now and again to get you through those days when there is nothing to talk about. Having a celebrity handy is sometimes just what the doctor ordered.

Lucky for me, Lo left one of her friends for me to gain access to.
